Turn Reel comments into orders

A seller at her studio table, ring light and camera set up for a Reel

In short

Reply to every buying comment with one warm line on the post, then message the person privately with the real answer — price, size, stock and delivery — and take the order in that same chat.

A Reel takes off. By evening there are sixty comments under it: “price?”, “how much”, “need this 😍”, “is the sand one available?”, two friends tagged, one “do you deliver to Kochi?”. Each of those is someone putting their hand up. Most of them will have scrolled on by the time you reach them.

Comments are where interest shows up, but they’re a poor place to sell. They’re public, they scroll away, links in them don’t open, and nobody is going to type their address under your Reel. The sale happens in the DM. Your job is to get every interested person there quickly, with an answer worth opening.

Spot the comments that are asking to buy

Read each comment for what it means, not for particular words. People ask in their own way, and often in their own language:

  • Direct questions — price, size, colour, stock, delivery to their city, cash on delivery.
  • Quieter ones — “need this”, “where can I get this?”, “link?”, a row of heart-eyes under a product shot.
  • Tags — someone tagging a friend is usually sharing, not buying. Reply warmly on the post, and don’t message the friend, who never asked to hear from you.
  • Complaints and scams — these need different handling. More on them below.

Start with the direct questions on your newest Reel, then work back. Don’t skip older Reels: they keep reaching new people for weeks, and a question under last month’s post is just as live as one from this morning.

Reply on the post in one line

The public reply has two jobs: tell the person you’ve answered, and show everyone else reading that this shop replies. Keep it short and warm, and point them to their messages:

  • “Sent you the details in a message, Meera 💛”
  • “Just messaged you — have a look in your message requests if you can’t see it!”
  • “Yes, Sage is in stock! Details in your DMs ✨”

Three rules for that public line:

  1. No price and no link in it. Links in comments don’t open, and a reply stays under your Reel for months — long after a price or an offer has changed. If you want the price public, put it in the caption, which you can edit.
  2. Vary the words. A column of identical replies looks copy-pasted to the people reading it, and to Instagram.
  3. Mention message requests. If they don’t follow you, your message can land in their requests instead of their main inbox, and they may never look there.

If you use insideDM, your agent sends both answers for you — a short reply on the post and a private message with the price and stock. See Comments and story replies on Instagram.

In the DM, answer the real question first

The most common first message is “Hi! How can I help you?” — and it wastes the moment. They already told you what they want. Answer it, and the next thing they’ll ask, in one message: the price, the options, whether it’s in stock, when it would reach them, and one question that moves things forward.

Hi Meera! The Buds Pro are ₹2,499. Black is in stock and ships tomorrow. Shall I keep a pair for you?
yes black please!!

Some questions need one thing from them before you can answer well. Ask for exactly that, and say why:

  • Fit or size — “What size do you usually wear?” helps more than sending a full size chart and leaving them to work it out.
  • Delivery — ask for the pincode, then give a real estimate for that place instead of a vague range.
  • Stock — if it’s gone, say so, offer the closest thing you do have, and offer to message them when it’s back. Then actually do it.

is the watch available in sand?
You
Sand sold out this morning, Ananya — sorry! The Watch in Sage is in stock at ₹4,999. Or I can message you here the day Sand is back. Which would you like?

Will do — you’ll hear from me here first 🙂

Take the order in the same chat

Once they say yes, don’t send them to your website to find the product again and start from scratch. Take the order where you are, one question at a time:

  1. Confirm the item, the colour or size, and the quantity.
  2. Ask for their name, phone number and full delivery address with pincode.
  3. Send one message that sums it all up, with the total, and ask if it’s right.
  4. Send a single payment link for that exact amount.
  5. Confirm in the chat as soon as the payment comes through.

Copy this for step 3: “Here’s your order: 1 × [product], [colour] — ₹[price], delivered to [area, pincode] in [days]. Shall I send your payment link?”

In insideDM, the product card your agent sends has an Order this button, so she can place the order without leaving her DMs — see How a customer orders and pays in the chat. For the payment itself, read Getting paid in the chat, the right way.

Handle the comments that aren’t buyers

Scams and fakes. Popular Reels attract fake “you’ve won a giveaway” comments with links, and accounts pretending to be your shop. Hide or delete them, report the account, and turn on Instagram’s Hidden Words to filter the worst. Say once — in your bio or a pinned comment — that you only ever message from this account, so your customers know what a fake looks like.

Real complaints. Never hide or delete a genuine complaint; people notice, and it reads worse than the complaint. Reply on the post with one calm line, then sort it out in the DM:

Copy this: “So sorry about this, Rohit — I’ve sent you a message so we can put it right.”

Anything involving money back — a refund, a return, a replacement — is a decision you make yourself, in the chat, never a promise made in the comments.

insideDM hides scam links and accounts pretending to be you before anyone answers them, and sends a real complaint to your inbox for you to answer — see Comments and story replies on Instagram.

The short version

  • Read every comment for what it means — price, size, stock, delivery — and start with your newest Reel.
  • Reply on the post in one warm line, with no price or link, and send the real answer in a DM.
  • In the DM, answer what they asked and what they’ll ask next, then ask one question that moves things on.
  • Take the order in that same chat: details, a summary with the total, one payment link.
  • Hide scams, answer real complaints, and keep money decisions for yourself.
