Download or delete your data

In short

Download contacts from Contacts › Export, one chat from its menu › Export transcript…, and invoices from Billing & usage › Invoices. To erase one customer, open them in Contacts and choose Erase this person…; to close your account, open your account menu in the top bar and choose Delete account.

Where it isInteractionContacts

Your catalogue, conversations and contacts belong to you. Here’s how to take a copy, and how to remove them.

Download what you need

You can export your data at any time while your account is open.

  • Your contacts. Go to Interaction › Contacts and choose Export. You get a spreadsheet file (CSV) of the people the list is showing — to get everyone, clear any search or stage filter and set the channel picker to show both Instagram and WhatsApp.
  • One conversation. Open the chat in Conversations, choose the ⋮ button (More conversation actions), then Export transcript…. Choose Create transcript, then Prepare download, then Download transcript. You get a text file of everything the customer could see. Internal notes and team activity aren’t included, and the download is available until the time shown.
  • Campaign results. In Grow › Campaigns, open the Delivery tab and choose Export CSV for the record of who got each message.
  • Your bills. In Set up › Billing & usage › Invoices, choose Open invoice or Open receipt on a paid row.

You can also ask for a copy of what insideDM holds about you, in a form you can take elsewhere, at privacy@insidedm.in.

Erase one customer

When a customer asks you to delete their details:

  1. Go to Interaction › Contacts and choose their name.
  2. At the bottom of their details, choose Erase this person….
  3. Read what stays, then fill in Why are you erasing them? — it’s kept on the erasure record, so you can say why if asked.
  4. Under Type their name or number to confirm, type their name or number.
  5. Choose Erase permanently and enter your security code.

Their name, numbers, handles, conversations, notes and details go, along with anyone merged into them. Nobody can bring them back. Two things stay, on purpose:

  • The record that they opted out, so the erasure never becomes the reason you message them again.
  • Completed orders, without their identity — the amount and date stay for your accounts and tax.

Only the Admin role can erase customers, unless you’ve given a custom role that permission.

To delete a single chat instead, see close, reopen or delete a chat.

Close your whole account

Download anything you want to keep first — once deletion runs, it can’t be undone. Closing your account also ends your plan’s renewal, so nothing is charged after you leave.

  1. Open your account menu — your initial, in the top bar — and choose Delete account.
  2. Read the list. Any workspace where you’re the only member is deleted with your account, with every conversation, contact, order, product and connected channel in it. Workspaces with other people in them keep running; you simply leave.
  3. Type DELETE and choose Delete my account.
  4. Enter your security code. If you haven’t set up codes, we ask for your password instead.

You’ll see “Your account is closed”, and you’re signed out.

If it says You can’t delete your account yet, you’re the only admin of a workspace that other people use. Give someone else the Admin role in Settings & team › Team & roles, then try again.

Disconnect a channel

Disconnecting Instagram or WhatsApp in Set up › Connections stops it at once and deletes what insideDM was holding for it. Open the channel and choose Disconnect.

You can also cut the connection from Meta’s side at any time. On Instagram, remove insideDM in your Instagram settings. For WhatsApp, the Facebook account that connected insideDM can remove it in Meta Business Settings › Integrations › Connected apps.

Our Delete your data page lists every route, with the exact wording to send us.
